Artist Statement/Resume

I am interested in the process of things: in life’s rituals…everyday existence. These process pieces are an exploration of my need to convey some kind of permanence that includes change. Through my work, I present the amalgamation of seemingly disparate pieces of life attempting to offer a fresh, universal perception. I attempt to collage different events, emotions, data and philosophical understandings into a concerted expression. At times, I incorporate gardening into my work: the ritual, the process, and the chance operation of it.

In my work, I attempt to create a metaphorical expression of my own real-life events and in the process, discover latent and inherent meaning from the seemingly unassociated experiences. To spawn something more than a collection of memories, I seek to fabricate a new inner connection of these experiences that are born of life. My goal is discovering something new from the potential physical interaction of seemingly unconnected elements, artifacts, and ideals.

Eventually, my final piece may be the metamorphic gesture of my first piece. It may reconcile all of the advances and mistakes I have made and will continue to make in my pursuit to complete an understanding.
